How Tuhi works
1. RECORD
The clinician records a patient consultation on their device. There is a “patient consent” step before recording can occur.
2. TRANSCRIBE
The recording is then transcribed into text and processed through a Large Language Model (LLM).
3. REPORT
This gets organised into a standardised documentation format (e.g., SOAP).
4. REVIEW
The clinician will check, edit, and save to the patient’s record.

Who owns Tuhi?
Tuhi is a product owned by Health New Zealand and developed by Awa Digital, a Māori owned health tech start-up that builds tech solutions for the health and wellbeing of all New Zealanders.
What is "ambient audio"?
Ambient audio refers to background or surrounding noise. You can hear ambient audio or noise through an earbud microphone while listening to music. Example: You can listen to and hear background noise in the clinic. while you are on a Zoom call.
If you don’t say it and it isn’t recorded, what happens?
If Tuhi is unable to capture and record ambient audio during a consult, either from the clinician or the patient, there can be no audio analysis or data processing performed. This is the same scenario in a normal Clinician/Patient in-person consultation, where notes may not be recorded by the practitioner if the patient is inaudible.
